About Captain Jim

Captain Jim is a US Coast Guard licensed captain with 45 years of fishing and boating experience in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, California, and Mexico, with 20+ years in the Hawaiian Islands. Born and raised in Westerly, RI he developed a love for fishing while fly fishing and catching large trout and bass in the wooded ponds and streams. While in college he spent his summers lifeguarding on Charlestown, RI beaches, spending hours surf casting for large striper bass. His first big fish experience came at age 11 when his dad took him on a friend's boat and he caught his first Blue Fin Tuna! As they say, the rest is history. His family owns and operates two Live Bait and Tackle stores in Quonochontaug and Weekapaug, Rhode Island. Nobody likes fishing more than Captain Jim. Let's Go Fishing!

About the Boat - Krista

1984 Topaz 38' open sport fisher with flybridge and tuna tower. She is a high-performance twin-screw inboard diesel powered vessel designed for offshore sport fishing. The hull design incorporates a moderate deadrise 'V' forward entry along with a vertical flat transom stern allowing for smooth open ocean cruising. Controls are on the aft deck port, bridge, and tuna tower. The vessel's deck layout includes a long modern deck sweeping along a tapered beam, a bare teak-capped molded toe rail travels along the deck line and the Flybridge is provided with handrails for safety. “This boat” is an absolute fish catcher and has always been captain maintained. The salon area has a galley and a full marine head and berth forward. The main air-conditioned salon is spacious and comfortable with a bunk and sitting area. The flybridge is tournament-style with an excellent sight line to the cockpit. The full tower also has full control of the boat. The cockpit is completely set up for all offshore big game fishing with 32ft Rupp riggers, a live well, and a full Simrad Electronic controls package. The vessel had a major dry dock in 2023.
